Pangkor Island Festival (PIF) is a pioneering island-based festival where community, culture and arts come to play. 邦咯海島節是馬來西亞第一個結合海島風光與社區文化的藝術節。
Pangkor Island is well known for its beautiful weather and amazing seashores. Unknown to most, Pangkor Island has more to offer – there are still many untold tales waiting to be unveiled.
Tourists generally alight at Pangkor Jetty and often spent their time relaxing at the beach. It is rare to see tourists venturing deeper into the island to discover the serene and carefree lifestyle of ordinary folks at the small town of Sungai Pinang Kecil.
Currently, the island is populated mostly by old folks and young children. A lot of important historical stories are circulated merely through word of mouth in the form of folklore amongst the locals. The oral histories are seldom recorded and validated.
Thus, co-organiser of PIF, A Pangkor Hill (APH), hopes to work with local communities to endorse and improve art education within Pangkor. By educating locals regarding the importance of cultural preservation, APH seeks to record and preserve the historical and cultural milestones and also to establish a platform for Pangkorians to connect with and keep track of the latest news in the art scene.
