Art Exhibition – Colours of Malaysia : Harmony & Unity

Colours of Malaysia : Harmony & Unity
Warna-Warna Malaysia : Muhibah & Perpaduan

“We are all Malaysians. This is the bond that unites us. Let us always remember that unity is our fundamental strength as a people and as a nation.” – Tunku Abdul Rahman, Father of Independence, 1st Prime Minister of Malaysia.

“Muhibah & Perpaduan” (Harmony & Unity) was the first theme for National Day celebration in 1970. That was also the celebration of our country’s 13th year of independence since 31st Aug 1957.

This year, 2019, our country celebrates its 62nd year of independence and 56th year since the establishment of Malaysia; the union between Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore on 16 September 1963.

“Colours of Malaysia : Harmony & Unity” aims to highlight the harmonious unity amongst various different culture and ethnic groups of Malaysians. In this diversity, Malaysians are united and living in harmony as one.

Aligned with the theme of this year’s National Day, “Sayangi Malaysiaku : Malaysia Bersih”, this exhibition aims to also celebrate the diversity of people in our beloved country in ensuring a ‘clean’ Malaysia. We aim to utilise art as one of the tools to support this notion.

“Colours of Malaysia : Harmony & Unity” goes deeper and beyond the 4 colours of our national flag – it is the in-depth interpretation of what ‘colours’ of Malaysia mean for each of the participating artists, may it be in express or implied sense.

The 9 artists exhibiting here are all Malaysians from various backgrounds, yet their passion in art and their identity as Malaysians connect them as one.
