Aven Kuei

• Founder and director of Taiwan’s first museum consultation company doubling as a niche publishing company, the Five Senses Arts Management Association; currently the president of the MeDA (Museum Education and Development Association)
• Five Senses has published series of more than 70 books in the fields of museology and arts management since 1997, including the “Museology”, the “Nonprofit Organization Management” and the “Arts Management” (book series); her widely popular book I Love Museum is the recipient of the 2001 United Daily News Book of the Year Award
• Has curated numerous exhibitions including: the programming of the 921 Earthquake Museum of Taiwan, the curation of the Children’s Hall at the National Museum of Taiwan History, “Active Ageing and Dialogue with Time”: Taiwan’s First Interactive Exhibition for Seniors (A Collaboration between Germany and Taiwan), and the programming and opening exhibition of the Taiwan Migration Museum

Museum Making

In 1997, Kuei founded the Five Senses Arts Management Association with dreams of becoming the incubator of the museum industry. As a publishing company that also focuses on museum programming and curation, Five Senses quickly became the bridge for new information and resources in the Chinese language museum industry.

Kuei enjoys taking risks and being creative at problem-solving; her book writing reflects this aspect of her personality, as she approaches the task of book writing with the same tenacity as she would the programming of a large-scale exhibition. She believes in the process, for it creates space for learning and for sharing her passions, and it motivates her to go on her path as a museum person with conviction and joy.
